Hello all cheer coaches! With the cheer season in full swing and competitions just around the corner, I thought it might be a good idea to let you know that I have been in contact with a coach in Valley View that is interested in starting a team. This is good news as we would then have representation from the North West Zone. I wish well with starting this new team. Provincials being on the way, I have a few ideas that may save some stress for the parents and the team members on the days of competition. How would the coaches feel about asking their team members to pre-order hoodies and t-shirts? As well as pre-order the dvd's as a team. It would be more cost effective and also reduce lines ups during the competition day. Please let me know how you feel about these ideas.
Thanks Barb North Central Zone Director

Hello, I have a situation that I need some advise on how to handle. It was brought to my attention that some of my elementary kids were being teased for being in cheerleading. Nothing unusual until I heard whom they were being teased by. Would you believe it was by their TEACHERS!! Does anyone have any suggestions on how this should be handled in a way that the teachers will not come back at the kids? I am open for suggestions.

Barb Hi Barb, I coached at a small-town school 2 years ago, and RELIGIOUSLY the basketball coach (who was also the head of atheltics) was the ringleader of a group of teachers who repeatedly made fun of the girls...to the point they would stand at the door and point and laugh through the window when someone would fall. I called a meeting with the principal and this particular teacher and basically said that we don't sit in the stands and boo them when the team loses, why should it be ok for him and his team and these other teachers to stand in front of my team of athletes and tease them about their sport? The principal (thankfully) agreed, and the coach appologized to me and assured me it would not happen again. The principal also spoke to 3 other teachers about their actions, and we never had an issue again

Hello!! I am interested in starting a team in the Peace River area soon. We have a football team, but it is not linked to one school, but to all the high schools. Therefore I wanted to start an All-Star Team. I had my coaching license a few years ago, but because of lack of interest at the school I was at, i had no team so no use for a license. I am kinda wondering where to start, how to gain interest, etc. Any comments or tips would really help!!
